Victoria police officers are investigating a possible case of animal cruelty after finding a 2-year-old Yorkshire Terrier shot and dead outside its home in the 4600 block of Lilac Lane.
Officers responded to a call early Thursday evening in reference to an animal cruelty investigation, said Sgt. Eline Moya, spokeswoman for the police department.
The homeowner told police that he found his dog dead at his back door, Moya said, noting that the backyard is secured by a chain-link fence.
"Preliminary investigation showed the dog was possibly killed utilizing a small-caliber firearm or pellet gun," she wrote in an email Tuesday afternoon.
Anyone with information about this incident is asked to call Crime Stoppers at 361-572-4200.
