Allan's Wrecker Service workers survey the tractor-trailer on its side where it flipped as it was exiting southbound U.S. Highway 59 in Victoria. Chavez Rolday, 30, of Florida, was exiting the ramp in the 3100 block of the service road when he lost control of the vehicle, said Patrol Officer Herschel Buck.

A southbound exit off U.S. Highway 59 was closed for several hours Wednesday after a tractor-trailer lost control of its trailer and rolled onto its side.

The driver was able to pull himself out of the cabin of the truck without injury, said Patrol Officer David Brogger of the Victoria Police Department.

Chavez Rolday, 30, of Florida, attempted to exit the highway about 2 p.m. at speeds that were too fast for the rainy condition, Brogger said, causing the trailer to pull away from the truck and roll on its side.

The trailer, which was carrying collapsed cardboard boxes, had to be unloaded before wreckers could move the vehicle off the exit ramp.

The ramp was reopened about 4:30 p.m., according to a spokesman with the Victoria Fire Department.
