The sixth annual Charity Concert Series at the Leo J. Welder Center for the Performing Arts is bringing to Victoria performances by hit-making traditional country singers and songwriters.

Pam Tillis, former Country Music Association female vocalist of the year, and her trio will kick off the 2014 concerts Jan. 16.

The series benefits Bluebonnet Youth Ranch, the Victoria Lions Club, Theatre Victoria and the Leo J. Welder Center for the Performing Arts.

The second concert is scheduled for May 8 for an evening with recording artist Gary Morris. The Dallas Morning News writes, "There are voices that transcend seasons and settings. They are the kind of voices that, through sheer beauty and unbridled passion, soar above others. Gary Morris has one of those voices." Morris has had 10 No. 1 hits, including song of the year, "Wind Beneath My Wings." He has also performed at the White House for every president since Ronald Reagan.

The series will end with singer and songwriter Eddy Raven on Sept. 4. Raven is one of the most prolific songwriters and recording artists known for the hit songs "I Got Mexico," "Thank God for Kids," "Who Do You Know in California," "Shine, Shine, Shine," "Bayou Boys" and "You're Playing Hard to Forget."

"The sixth annual Charity Concert Series has been taken to a new level as it brings in some of country music's most notable names of those who have had success performing and writing," said Claud Jacobs, a Bluebonnet Youth Ranch founder and one of the organizers of the concert series.

Tickets are on sale now at the Welder Center Box Office and online at WelderCenter.org. Individual tickets are $30 for each concert, or you may purchase tickets for the entire series at $75 per person. Tickets for all performances are limited, so concert-goers are encouraged to purchase early.

The Leo J. Welder Center for the Performing Arts, 214 N. Main St., is owned and managed by Victoria College.
