George and Barbara Yarbrough, of Goliad, recently celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary on November 2, 2013 with a family luncheon hosted by the couple's children at their home, "Happy Acres" in Goliad.
George married Barbara Odle on November 1, 1953 in Wylie.
The couple have four children; Rose Langford of Woodbine, Georgia, George Jr. (Buddy) of Seadrift, Scott of Victoria, and James of Goliad; and five grandchildren; Shannon Emery of Warner-Robbins, Georgia, Jonathan Langford of Milledgeville, Georgia, Jessica Ussery of Woodbine, Georgia, Cynthia Tuso of San Antonio, and James Yarbrough of Goliad.
The couple met on a blind date in March 1953. When the boys got out to put gas in their car, Barbara's sister asked her to trade seats and dates. But Barbara has decided George was a keeper, so she kept her seat and kept her guy now for sixty years.
George left the newspaper production trade to preach the Gospel of Jesus Christ. Working together as a team, they pastored seven churches over thirty-three years. Now in retirement, their ministry focuses on senior citizen centers and retreats. In their spare time they enjoy gardening, homemaking, reading, and spending time with their family.
