The identity of a 66-year-old man found dead at the Victoria Motel early Sunday morning was released Monday.
Daniel Lee Silgero, of Victoria, was found dead in his burning apartment after police officers responded to a welfare check about 2:30 a.m., according to a news release from the Victoria Police Department.
Shawn Chapel, 32, of Victoria, remained in the Victoria County Jail on suspicion of capital murder in Silgero's death. Chapel was arrested at the motel, police said.
Meanwhile, Silgero's family is preparing funeral services, said his brother, Philip Silgero, 68, of Harrisonburg, Va.
Silgero said his brother had been experiencing a lot of health problems and was on several medications prior to his death. Three years ago, he was in a nursing home, he added.
Silgero recovered enough to check himself out of the nursing home and move back to Victoria, but he remained in poor health, his brother added.
"I expected him to pass away any time," he said. "But I hardly expected this."
The family hopes to hold services Friday, Silgero said.
The investigation is still ongoing.
