The football future of Edna High School quarterback Austin Kelley is in doubt.

Kelley was arrested Monday for violation of probation, according to Jackson County Sheriff Andy Louderback.

Kelley was being held at the Jackson County Detention Center as of 9:30 p.m. Tuesday in lieu of $20,000 bond.

Kelley was arrested Feb. 2 for assault and received a probated sentence.

Edna coach Mike Pierce refused to comment on Kelley's status but acknowledged the senior is not currently with the team.

"He's not playing right now," Pierce said. "We're going to let our legal process and court system work through its process."

Kelley was suspended for last season's game against Sweeny.

Pierce said at the time Kelley "didn't follow directions" after last season's Yoakum-Edna game at Cowboy Memorial Stadium.

Kelley started all four games as quarterback for the Cowboys this season.

He rushed for 254 yards and three touchdowns and passed for 76 yards and one touchdown. He also punted.

Edna will have an open date this week before beginning District 14-2A, Division I play Oct. 11 at Hempstead.

Pierce said senior Keaton Crabb and junior Brandon Nidey will handle the quarterback duties for the Cowboys.
