Hatter Jr., Crowe continue torrid pace

Two of the hottest bowlers since the opening of the 2013 fall bowling season have been Tom Crowe and Gary Hatter Jr.

Both bowlers continued their torrid pace with a close battle for the weekly high scoring honors this week.

Crowe earned the top series with games of 247, 258 and 223 to total 728 during Sugar & Spice League competition.

Hatter Jr. was close behind by posting great individual games of 247, 258 and 216 for a 721 set.

Hatter Jr. bowled a career high 804 series two weeks to take top billing; he followed last week with a 758 to tie for the high total with Mike Osterson, and now records the second top series for the week. He also cruised to a 691 set in another league.

Both bowlers finished the three games without an open frame.

Dave Matthews and Mike Stacy also broke the 700 mark with Matthews edging Stacy 702 to 701 respectively.

Christine Speer recorded the top series for the women while competing in the Sugar & Spice League.

She crunched the pins for games of 236, 214 and 200 to roll a 650 set.

Patricia Bellanger scored a nice 233 high game on her way to a 636 total.

Other scores for the women were Samantha Wharton (586), O. Jackson (218-582), Morgan Matula (247), and Ida Caballero (237).

Vera Cruz Restaurant bowlers for the week are James Holbert 760 (Sundowners) and Rachel Wortham 700 (Sugar & Spice).

The Vera Cruz bowlers of the week are based on the top handicap score for the week at the Century Lanes; they receive a certificate for a free dinner, compliments of the restaurant.
