Get ready to party, Victoria. The third annual Bootfest begins today.

Friday and Saturday, downtown Victoria will be filled with thousands of people enjoying the sights; eating good, Texas foods; taking part in creative activities; listening to great music and more. We're looking forward to seeing how many people come to participate in this year's celebration.

Bootfest began in 2011 as a way to attract visitors to downtown Victoria and promote tourism. Many different Crossroads communities have special festivals throughout the year. Cuero has Turkeyfest, Yoakum has the Tom Tom festival, Port O'Connor has the Poco Bueno Fishing Tournament, and Port Lavaca has the Flip Flop Festival. Now, Victoria has the Bootfest, which has had two successful years of attracting visitors to downtown.

During previous years, Bootfest has drawn some big names to headline the musical shows. In 2011, Josh Abbott took the stage, and in 2012, Easton Corbin headlined the Saturday night show. This year, Jerrod Niemann, a rising country music star, will grace downtown Victoria with his music.

We encourage Victoria and Crossroads residents to check out this year's Bootfest. The schedule for this weekend is packed with events and contests for everyone to enjoy. On top of the free music, there is the Kid's Corral with plenty of inflatable games and activities, shopping booths with arts and crafts vendors, boot-making demonstrations, a fireworks show Friday night and much more. The entire festival is free, except for food and beverages.

To accommodate the thousands of people expected to attend, the city is offering a shuttle service so attendees can park at the Dr. Pattie Dodson Public Health Center parking lot and Riverside Stadium in Riverside Park. The shuttles will operate from 4:30 p.m. to midnight Friday and 9:45 a.m. to 11:30 p.m. Saturday.

Besides all of the activities offered as part of Bootfest, this is also an opportunity for visitors to check out Victoria's downtown area. Over the past few years, downtown has seen plenty of improvements and building restorations. With the help of Bootfest, the downtown area could continue to make progress in the effort to become a vibrant, bustling part of Victoria's community.

So take some time this weekend to come downtown and enjoy Bootfest. We hope to see you there.
