Four more of Wayne and Karen Daggs' barbado sheep were stolen or mutilated, which brings the total to 19 since March.
"I'm too old to lie outside all night with the mosquitos," Daggs said. "I could be there every night for weeks or months."
One female disappeared last week from their 10-acre property outside Port Lavaca.
Tuesday night, another vanished, and two were killed.
The throat of one female was cut, and the reproductive organs were pulled from her body, said Calhoun County Sheriff George Aleman.
She was likely cornered and caught, based on tracks left in the rain-soaked ground Wednesday morning, Aleman said.
The male was either shot or stabbed behind the ear and possibly ran into the pond, where he was found floating.
The sheriff's department is stepping up the investigation. Aleman visited the property Wednesday and assigned two officers - an investigator and a patrol deputy - to the crime.
"We're going to stay on it and, hopefully, get a lucky break," he said. "It's in the country, so there aren't many people to see what's happening."
