A Portland man was injured after he went into a median and flipped his motorcycle on U.S. Highway 59, 2 miles south of Victoria, on Monday morning.

Martin William Dossett, 56, was traveling north on U.S. Highway 59 in the inside lane.

Lee Leger, 42, of Palacios, pulled out from a private drive about 8 a.m. in a Waste Management truck. He, too, pulled into the inside lane, said Trooper Gerald Bryant of the Department of Public Safety.

"The motorcycle moved over to the outside lane, and the truck driver also pulled into the outside lane," Bryant said. "The motorcycle then, to dodge the truck, went back to the inside lane, and the truck also thought the motorcycle was going to go to the right, so it also went to the inside lane. This forced the motorcycle into the median, where it flipped over. ... The truck never touched the motorcycle."

Leger was given a citation for failing to yield the right of way, which is a Class C misdemeanor. Dossett was taken to DeTar Hospital Navarro for minor injuries, Bryant said.

Dossett was treated and released, a hospital spokeswoman said about 8 p.m. Monday.
