Colonial Dames of the 17th Century, John Brewer Chapter, met at Sky Restaurant on Sept. 13 to hear a presentation by Dr. Karen Hagan. Hagan, associate professor of history at Victoria College, shared her research on "The Great Island Sasquatch: An Alternative Explanation for the Incident of 1682." Strange occurrences in the summer of 1682 in Great Island, N.H., such as stone throwing assaults and destruction of fences and other properties were attributed to witchcraft and alternately to Bigfoot. Hagan presented speculations about the possible sources of the attacks to Colonial Dames members and guests at the luncheon meeting. Barbara Parsons Smith, left, presented Hagan with a pilgrim figurine.
