Byron Burris, right, gives Caleb Staudt a feel as he places a bid for the bra, named "Beautiful Lady," that he wore during the auction part of Thursday's fourth annual Pink Ribbon Event, Cirque du Cure: Lions, Tigers and Bras ... Oh My!, at the Spring Creek Events Center. The bra was auctioned for $1,500.

The ladies in attendance at the Spring Creek Events Center on Thursday night clapped and hollered as Caleb Staudt carefully negotiated a balance beam on the catwalk.

As they clapped in rhythm, he showed off not his agility but rather the silver butterfly adorning his black-fringe bra strapped to his black T-shirt.

Twelve men were signed up to strut their stuff at the fourth annual Pink Ribbon Event named Cirque du Cure: Lions, Tigers & Bras ... Oh My! to benefit the American Cancer Society.

"It's a great time, but it's also a really good cause," Staudt, 29, said. "That's about the only way you could convince me to strap on a bra and jump up there."

Seventeen circus-themed bras decorated by people from Crossroads businesses were auctioned off to raise money.

"We want to include the community because cancer affects everyone," event co-chairwoman and cancer survivor Veronica Hohlt, 43, said. "It affects the community, so it is a community effort to find a cure."

Hohlt said she hopes to raise $40,000 this year for the local chapter of the American Cancer Society to help women with prosthetics, wigs, gas cards and hotel stays to travel for treatment and information. Last year's event raised about $32,000 for the organization.

Hohlt said that using men in the event as models - and in an opening inspirational video - recognizes the support system for many breast cancer survivors.

Staudt, whose mother-in-law had breast cancer, was well supported as he worked the crowd to attract a $1,000 bid for his bra, named "Beautiful Lady."

"It's the nicest bra I've ever worn," Staudt joked.
