Lady Flyers finish 18th at state meet

WACO - The St. Joseph Lady Flyer cross country team wrapped up its season with an 18th place finish at the TAPPS State Championships on Saturday morning.

Alex Marlow was the first Lady Flyer to cross the finish line, coming in 70th place out of nearly 200 runners. She finished in 14 minutes, 21 seconds.

The TAPPS Class 4A individual state champion was Isabella Grant of Houston Awty, who finished the 2-mile race in 11:51.

Senior Kristin Sontheimer ran her final race for St. Joseph, finishing 85th in 14:44. Along with Sontheimer and Marlow, Sydney Barker (93rd in 14:59), Kathryn Janecek (97th in 15:05) and Gabby Kirkpatrick (106th in 15:29) all turned in personal-best records.

Also running were Katherine Dent in 114th (16:00) and Abigail Kovar in 116th (16:02).

Jourdan Hydol-Smith was the lone boy to run in Waco on Saturday for St. Joseph. He finished 170th in the 5K with a time of 21:18.
