Shiner prepares for annual strudel bake

Oct. 29, 2013 at 5:29 a.m.

Volunteers at the Shiner Strudel Bake each year include experienced workers as well as beginners. These experienced bakers, from left, Patricia Pesek, Anita Grabarkievtz and Fran Pesek, have been part of the project for the past 27 years and represent more than eight decades of strudel-making experience.

Volunteers and friends of the Sts. Cyril and Methodius Catholic Church in Shiner will spend Nov. 9 making homemade apple strudels.

They plan to roll out the dough for about 2,700 strudels.

Advance orders are required and must be placed by Nov. 7. The price for an unbaked strudel, complete with baking instructions, is $14.

The strudels are easy to prepare and keep for months in the freezer. Order extra to have on hand to prepare throughout the year.

To place an order in Shiner, call Marjorie Kresta at 361-594-2361 and pick up strudels from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Nov. 9. Baked strudels are available for $16 but are available in Shiner only.
