Everyone chases Dollins in Sundowner League

Sept. 5, 2013 at 4:05 a.m.

The Sundowner League opened the fall season Thursday, and Travis Dollins was the man everyone was chasing for the top score.

Dollins edged out T.J. Mooney for the weekly high series with a very nice 668 total.

He put together games of 234, 211 and 227 for his series.

Mooney was a close second with a nice 247 high game helping toward a 663 set in the same league.

Mike Osterson with a 254 high game and 649 total was the third highest.

Jacob Silgero posted a great 256 individual game.

The women also used the Sundowner League to post some good scores.

Sharon Guinn was the top scorer with games of 217, 223 and 188 contributing toward a 628 set.

Guinn should be poised to have a breakout year in her bowling. The times that I saw her during summer Wednesday Night No-Tap sweeper action, she was clutch in getting a strike when her strike ticket was called.

Morgan Matula posted a very nice 245 high game on her way to a 594 total.

With the Labor Day holiday being this past Monday, the Monday Mixed League deferred play for a week. The Over The Hill and Red River League will commence their competition next week.

We will have a full slate of league scores to report next week.

Sept. 15 is also the day Corporate Cup bowling competition is scheduled. Teams should report in at the Century Lanes at 4:00 p.m. with the demolishing of pins beginning at 4:30 p.m.

The Victoria Advocate team plans to give the competition a run for the gold.

Pro notes

Former Dallas Cowboy Pro Bowl receiver, Terrell Owens and collegiate bowling sensation Marshall Kent have been granted Professional Bowlers Association membership exemption, allowing them to compete in the PBA World Series of Bowling V.

The WSOB V will start competition next month in Las Vegas. The event includes five tournaments and features the PBA World Championships as the main event.

The five championship finals, with their own distinctive oil patterns, will air in December.

Owens was active in bowling as the owner of the PBA Leagues' Dallas Strikers, which finished in third place earlier this year.

He bowled in his first USBC Open Championships in Reno this year.

Kent is one of bowling's rising stars, making the TV finals in one of the PBA's Major Tournaments, the U.S. Open last July.
