Catholic Daughters Court St. Ann No. 369 holds meeting

Catholic Daughters, Court St. Ann No. 369, met Aug. 26 at the Knights of Columbus Hall. Regent Kathryn Ormsby presided. She welcomed members then led the opening prayer and the Pledge of Allegiance. Minutes of the June 3 meeting and treasurer's reports were posted and approved. Joan Schramek was then introduced and congratulated for being appointed CDA district deputy No. 34.
Vice regent Libby Ramirez acknowledged "thank you" notes from scholarship recipients, Jonathan Vahalik, Megan Candace Guerrero, Eric J. Alvarez and from Bishop David Fellhauer who thanked the court for its contribution to the Bishop's Dinner.
Circle of Life chairwoman, Claudia Schoener, reported on summer activities of her committees and Quality of Life committees as well. Donna Moeller, legislative chairwoman, shared information on the Fortnight of Freedom and the Texas legislature's vote on abortion limitation. She stressed ways that we can help fight abortion among which include prayer, fasting and adoration. She provided copies of the Operation Morning Star Newsletter and stressed the importance of keeping updated on the subject.
Bernice Fabian, financial secretary, presented the proposed 2013-14 budget, and after a brief discussion, it was approved and proposed.
Regent Ormsby announced the Daughter of the 4th Quarter, and the honor went to Donna Maxey. Donna currently serves as membership chairwoman and chaired the kitchen committee for the August games party. She is very actively involved in her parish, Our Lady of Lourdes, serving as Eucharistic minister, member of the Altar Society, and has chaired countless committees. Catholic Daughter of the Year will be presented at the Awards Banquet scheduled for Oct. 15.
A blood drive hosted by Court St. Ann and Knights of Columbus Council No. 1329 and chaired by Dorothy Boehm and Claudia Schoener will be scheduled in October. CDA Day will be celebrated on Oct 5 at 4 p.m. at Ted B. Reed Pavilion. The event, chaired by Claudia Schoener and Kathy Ormsby, will include an outdoor mass followed by a family picnic and games. The Court also agreed to participate in the Veterans' Parade scheduled for Nov. 11 and will again sponsor a float.
Laverne Klesel, bake sale chairwoman, announced that the next bake sale is scheduled on Oct. 20 at 8 a.m. at the KC Hall when KC Council No. 1329 holds its monthly barbecue chicken sale. Members are asked to contribute two baked items securely wrapped.
Upon adjournment of the business meeting, members enjoyed refreshments and fellowship. Hostesses for the evening included Lillian Berger, Bernice Fabian, Libby Ramirez and Kathy Ormsby.
