Oceans For Emotions: Following in Daddy's footsteps

"Simon Peter saith unto them, I go a fishing. They say unto him, we also go with thee."

- John 21:3

As many of my friends and family know, I have been somewhat under the weather lately and, therefore, I have not been able to go fishing and enjoy my beach as much as I'd like.

Unfortunately, I have actually fractured a vertebrae in my neck which is called "C-1," which means cervical one. Therefore, I can say that the closest I will get to fishing is to rewind my fishing memories or to live through the fishing experiences of my friends.

One thing I have really been appreciative of is my friends and family who really have shown they care. My good friend, Joyce, came by and brought me some homemade chicken noodle soup and cake made from scratch.

I ran into my friend, William, and I think William and I both realized that he had better tease me about not being able to go fishing because if he had looked sympathetically at me, I would have fallen down on the floor of the hospital and started crying.

So, William decided to cheer me up by telling me his fish story. I guess this is the closest I will get to fishing this week. William told me the story of how last Saturday, his two teenage daughters were bored, and they said, "Dad, let's go fishing."

So they loaded up the car and headed to Seadrift. William said this was the best fishing day ever. They each caught keeper reds. He made sure I understood that his daughters each caught keeper red fish, and he soaked up the honor when they agreed with him that they just love fishing.

One of his daughters said, "Dad, when can we go again?"

He said, "Well, I think anybody can figure out that answer: Not till next weekend."

Dear Lord, thank you for teenage girls who follow their dad as they carry fishing tackle. A lot of girls their age are trying to hide from their dads and creep into their own bedroom windows so they won't get caught coming in late. Thank you for the values that cause some people still to be proud.
