An 86-year-old man and his 78-year-old wife died in a Friday afternoon wreck at U.S. Highway 59 north between Zac Lentz Parkway and County Road.

Albert and Evelyn Schoener, from Port Lavaca, died when their gold Chevrolet Impala traveling east across the highway failed to yield the right of way to a blue BMW north on the highway at about 3:30 p.m., said Victoria police department spokeswoman Sgt. Eline Moya.

Albert Schoener was driving the Impala and was pronounced dead from his injuries at Citizens Medical Center. His wife was pronounced dead at the scene.

Michel Thigpen, 32, of Corpus Christi, was in the BMW and was listed in stable condition at Citizens.
