A woman struck Thursday by an 18-wheeler traveling south on U.S. Highway 77 near Refugio was listed in stable condition at a Corpus Christi hospital.

Lara Clayton, 24, of Brooklet, Ga., who was traveling on the highway in a John Deere tractor, was transported by helicopter to Christus Spohn Memorial Hospital Thursday afternoon after the truck hit her tractor, jack-knifed and landed on its side, said Sgt. Billy Mora with the Department of Public Safety.

The truck driver, Rickey Butler, 55 of Mission, was ejected from his vehicle and pronounced dead at the scene, according to a Department of Public Safety accident report.

The wreck remains under investigation.
