Update: Fire out, Torres no longer sheltered
Update: The fire is now out. Officials are ordering a preliminary evacuation of 1,000 feet. That area does not include residences. Employees with the companies Drill Green Petroleum Products and Alice Chalmers were asked to leave for the day.
City fire marshal Tom leglar is investigating.
Residents should not be concerned about air quality at this time, Victoria Fire Department assistant fire Tracy Fox said.
Firefighters are trying to contain flames confined to a 300-400 gallon tank of a toxic chemical called toluene at Drill Green Petroleum products in the 6000 block of U.S. 59 north, Victoria Fire Department assistant fire Tracy Fox said.
Fire officials asked Torres Elementary to shelter in place,which it did for 30 minutes. Employees for drill bit and a nearby business, Allis Chalmers Rental Service, were been evacuated, Fox said
There are no injuries, Fox said.
