The theme for last year's Victoria Symphony League Luncheon and Fashion show was James Bond. The theme for this year's event is Motown: Styling to the Beat. Ticket to the luncheon are $45 and proceeds support the Victoria Symphony.

The Victoria Symphony League will host its sixth annual luncheon and fashion show at the Spring Creek Event Center on Wednesday.

The league is an auxiliary group to the Victoria Symphony Orchestra's board of directors and helps to raise money for the shows and to promote its love of music to the community, said Cora Jo Hummel, chairwoman of the event.

"This is a big event for us to raise money," said Hummel. "The money goes to the symphony and to help educate children and students about the music, too."

At 10:30 a.m., the doors to the event center will open, and guests can enjoy 40 decorated tables and a silent auction, which will include items from area business and groups.

"It's important because we do raise a lot of money for the symphony - especially with what they've got going on this weekend," said Suzanne Foertsch, who is in charge of publicity for the league.

This year's event, she said, is Motown: Styling to the Beat. Each year, the theme changes, and in the past, the league has included such themes as James Bond.

As part of the six-year tradition, Hummel said, different groups and businesses will decorate the tables for the luncheon, and guests are able to buy seats at the specific table of their choice.

In addition to the tablescapes, the league is hosting a fashion show featuring local boutiques, including first-time businesses Golden Wings and All About The Dress.

"We like to highlight what they have because it's unique," said Hummel.

What would a symphony event be without musical entertainment? Area singer Hope Boyle will be there to bring the Motown tunes, and Dana Smith will play the keyboard as guests arrive.

Tickets to the luncheon are $45 and are available at the Victoria Symphony office, 2112 N. Navarro St. Proceeds from the ticket sales and silent auction support the Victoria Symphony Orchestra.
