2 burned in Formosa fire remain in Houston hospital
Two of the five Formosa operators who were burned in a fire Friday remain in Memorial Hermann Texas Trauma Institute's burn unit in Houston.
Employees were conducting scheduled maintenance on the tower in the high-density polyethylene-II unit, which produces a polypropylene-based plastic pellet, prior to the fire.
Bernard Mendoza, 37, of Inez, and Allen Bowman, 50, of Bay City, were listed in critical condition Tuesday, said Juanita Wamble, operations administrator for the institute.
Jeffrey Downs, 42, of Port Lavaca, and Thomas Looman, of Victoria, were released, she said.
The fifth patient was released from Citizens Medical Center on Friday, said Bill Harvey, communications manager for Formosa.
