Sept. 17, 2013 at 4:17 a.m.
The General Zaragoza Society of Goliad is celebrating its 69th anniversary as a public service organization and an advocate of education and community service.
For this purpose, the organization is presenting the Second Annual Zaragoza Educational and Community Awards Banquet.
The organization will recognize people who have been outstanding contributors to the region and communities. The General Zaragoza Society is accepting nominations from local organizations such as Chambers of Commerce, Lions Clubs, Rotary Clubs, school districts, cities, counties, civic clubs and individuals who wish to recognize outstanding people in the categories of law enforcement, education, humanitarianism and citizenship/community service.
Each award will have its own criteria and be judged by a panel of independent judges.
The General Zaragoza Society will recognize and honor the outstanding finalists at a banquet celebration at 6 p.m. Nov. 2, at the Goliad Auditorium.
Nominating groups or people are asked to present a two to three page, single-spaced outline with the nominee's resume and reason for nomination. A nominee is eligible for one category only. All judging decisions are final with finalists receiving the General Zaragoza Medallion.
