Symphony League holds meeting
The Victoria Symphony League had its business/luncheon meeting Sept. 11 at The Club at Colony Creek. President Francisca Watts called the meeting to order and thanked hostesses Mary Virginia Jacobs, Emily Markette and Carol Letsinger.
Mary Ann Wright, membership chair, reported 31 members and one guest in attendance. Minutes from the previous meeting were read by Valerie Parker and approved as read. Carol McLarry gave the treasurer's report, and it was filed as presented.
Committee reports were given. Charlyne Abshire, communication chair, thanked the six members doing the calling for meeting reminders. Debbie Durham, education, stated that she has worked with the MacArthur High School Orchestra teacher of San Antonio for 55 students to come to Victoria for music education, and prepared for education committee meetings for both VSO and VSL. Yearbook chair LaNell Billings gave a thank you to her committee of Mary Jane Schurtz, Beth Person, Carolyn Stellman, Jacquie Fritz, Cora Jo Hummel and Francisca Watts.
Cora Jo Hummel, general chairwoman of the Fundraiser Style Show/Luncheon on Sept. 18 at Spring Creek Event Center, discussed final plans. The theme is "Stylin' to the Beat of Motown." Various members will decorate creative tablescapes.
The meeting was adjourned for lunch. The next meeting will be Oct. 23 at the home of Dorothy Guthrie, 35 Meadow View.
