The sweet, high tenor of vocalist Aaron Neville will set his pitch this weekend in Victoria.
The concert is the first of its kind, said symphony Executive Director Michelle Hall. "We wanted to bring someone who hadn't been to Victoria before that we thought would be entertaining and successful for fundraising," she said.
The event is part of Neville's U.S. tour to support his latest effort, "My True Story." The album, which was released about seven years after "Mojo Soul" and "Bring it on Home: The Soul Classics" hit the shelves, is described as some of the musician's best work to date.
"If ever there was an album that Aaron Neville was born to make, it's this collection of doo-wop classics," wrote People Magazine.
The symphony normally does not do stand-alone concerts without the orchestra, Hall said.
The group's last concert fundraiser was when Lyle Lovett came to town a few years ago. "It was very successful," she said.
Tickets for the concert are available online, at the symphony offices on North Navarro Street and will be available at the box office Saturday night.
