West's Mickey continues to impress

CORPUS CHRISTI - Todd Mickey added another top five finish to his already impressive resume at the 2013 Islander Splash, leading Victoria West to a 16th-place finish.

Mickey finished fourth on the 3-mile course in a time of 16 minutes, 24 seconds. Blake Westbrook finished second for the Warriors, completing the race in 17:53, good enough for a 53rd place finish. There were a total of 183 competitors at Saturday's meet.

Lady Flyers take ninth

PORT ARANSAS - At the Port Aransas Marlins Cross Country meet Saturday morning, St. Joseph finished ninth overall with Alex Marlow's 40th-place finish in 15:02 leading the way for the Lady Flyers. Kristin Sontheimer reaggraveted an ankle injury on the sand course, which forced her to drop behind the lead pack. She was still able to cross the finish line in 18:15.

Also competing for the Lady Flyers was Sydney Barker, who finished 56th overall in 16:10; Gabby Kirkpatrick was 57th in 16:21; Kathryn Janecek was 58th in 16:21; Sarah McDowell was 60th in 16:55; Sarah Eastham was 61st in 16:59; and Amy Alcasabas was in 70th in 17:30.

For the boys' team, Jourdan Hydol-Smith finished the 5K race in 23:45, putting him at 59th overall.
