UHV's winning streak was foiled Tuesday night as the Jaguars lost the second game in a doubleheader against Texas Southern.

The Jaguars (22-9) won the first game 4-2 with freshman Savannah Crittenden pitching.

Freshman Shelby Smith extended a lead with a home run in the third inning.

Seniors Marley Moehrig and Ashley Winegeart each drove in runs to help lead UHV to the win.

UHV had eight hits and three RBIs, including three hits by Smith.

Texas Southern had nine hits.

In the second game, the Jaguars were trailing in the third inning by two runs, but Winegeart's home run brought home a runner, which tied the game.

A bases-loaded triple by the opponent would seal the second-game victory for Texas Southern, who won 6-2.

UHV had eight hits in the second game, including two each by Rachel Laird, Winegeart and catcher Kristina Droz.

Texas Southern had nine hits.

UHV's Red Out Day will be Saturday as it plays LSU-Alexandria in a noon doubleheader at the Victoria Youth Sports Complex.
