Trends: Steers and heifers, steady/active.

Steers: (200-300) $241-$305; (300-400) $203-$250; (400-500) $210-$240; (500-600) $166-$212; (600-700) $137-$178; and (700-800) $138-$162.

Heifers: (200-300) $230-$295; (300-400) $187-$250; (400-500) $173-$207; (500-600) $160-$200; (600-700) $137-$190; and (700-800) $129-$151.

Slaughter cows: $71-$110; slaughter bulls, $89-$131; stocker cows, $85-$117; bred cows, $1,066-$1,160; pairs, none; horses, $50-$500.

April 4

Receipts: 670

Had 97 cows and nine bulls. The packer market was lower as supplies are catching up with demand and adversely affecting the price. All packer classes as a result are $2 to $4 lower and have been that way all week. Every day was a little lower.

The calf market was active on all classes on a good solid day. Thinner calves were $2 to $4 higher. In fact, anything that was a little on the thin side was higher. There were a lot of good calves, and the market showed that.

Packer bulls: Heavyweights, $100-$123; lower grades, $80-$99.

Packer cows: breakers, $65-$83; boning cows, $65-$89; canners and cutters, $82-$109; light and weak, $38-$50.

Palpated dry cows (5 were bred): $100-$134; pairs (2): $1,600-$1,675.

Steer calves: (under 200) none; (200-250) $263-$276; (250-300) $247-$280; (300-350) $237-$280; (350-400) $237-$260; (400-450) $222-$249; (450-500) $216-$232; (500-600) $201-$220; (550-600) $188-$207; (600-700) $185-$200; (700-800) $145-$180.

Compared to last week: Better quality and better conditioned classes of calves and yearlings continued to sell fully steady to strong. Fleshier types were a little lower.

Packer cows sold $2 lower on about 375 head, and packer bulls sold steady on about 35 head.

Packer cows: Higher dressing utility and cutter cows, $93-$113; lower dressing utility and cutter cows, $78-$93; lightweight canner cows, $65-$78.

Packer bulls: Heavyweight bulls, $122-$134; utility and cutter bulls, $106-$122; lightweight canner bulls, $94-$106.
