VISD would be interested in new curriculum

"I think it's a great idea to cover a different aspect of Texas life," said Andrea De Los Santos, a Victoria West High School alum and Baylor University freshman. "We're so close to Mexico; it makes sense."

Susanne Carroll, Victoria school district executive director of Curriculum, Instruction and Accountability, said VISD would be open to considering the Mexican-American studies course depending on what the State Board of Education would classify it as.

"We need to know if they want to count it as a social studies credit or a foreign language credit," Carroll said. "If they come up with a course that fits within our framework, we would be more than happy to look at it."
