As part of the Holy Week services at First United Methodist Church, the sanctuary choir will lead the congregation in a premiere singing of the Leibniz Hymn in a newly composed setting and for the first time in English translation at 7 p.m. Friday.
The Leibniz Hymn ("Jesu, dessen Tod und Leiden") is an Easter hymn written in German on Good Friday in 1684 by a philosopher of the 17th century, Gottfried Wilhelm Leibniz.
To commemorate the 330th anniversary of its composition, Glenn Hunter, director of Music at First United Methodist Church, 407 N. Bridge St. in Victoria, has composed an original musical setting especially for the new English translation.
The public is invited to attend.
