Anyone who is 16 years old and weighs at least 120 pounds (with parental consent form) or at least 17 years old and weighing 110 pounds and in good general health may donate blood. All donors receive refreshments, a miniphysical and are encouraged to eat before and after donation. Learn more about blood donation at southtexasblood.org or call 800-292-5534.

There is no substitute for blood donors.

When patients require blood - whether it's red blood cells, platelets or plasma - it all starts with volunteer donors who decide to help save lives and roll up their sleeves.

Because the community blood supply is always in need, volunteers are asked to consider donating as often as possible. At mobile drives, donors have the option of donating whole blood every eight weeks or dual red blood cells every 16 weeks.

These much-needed donations can help save the lives of cancer patients, trauma victims, newborns and many others, according to a news release from the South Texas Blood and Tissue Center.

During April, all donors will receive a chance to win plaza-level Spurs tickets, including a parking pass, a T-shirt and miniphysical.
