Texas Southern shuts out Jaguars 6-0 at tournament

HOUSTON - UHV may have outhit Texas Southern on Saturday, but it didn't lead to more runs.

Texas Southern defeated the Jaguars 6-0 at the Texas Southern University Baseball Tournament.

Texas Southern's Fran Cruz pitched a complete game shutting out UHV, striking out eight batters and walking just two. Nathan Falkenstine pitched three innings and gave up three earned runs on six hits and two walks. Tyler Vakey, Cory Hulsey and Colton Cowart saw time on the mound in relief appearances.

The Tigers scored their first run of the game in the second inning and added four more runs the following inning to take a commanding lead.

Stephen Shorkey and Kyle Bludau each went 2 for 4 at the plate to lead the Jaguars.

UHV defeated Arlington Baptist 6-2 Friday at the tournament and will face both Arlington Baptist and Texas Southern in a doubleheader Sunday.
