Living good life is better than day of honor

Editor, the Advocate:

This is in response to the letter to the editor written by Mary Kuester asking that one day a year be set aside to honor senior widows.

My husband of 54 years passed away at the end of January of this year. I loved him, took care of him and will miss him until the day I die. I do not, however, want to be honored once a year as a senior widow. The last thing I want to be known as is "that old widow lady."

Life goes on and should be enjoyed to the fullest. I would like my legacy to be "she lived the best life she could in the present and the future."

Life is a gift from God, and we need to take advantage of every day and continue to contribute to society. I am more than someone's wife - I am my own person, and I am proud of that fact.
