Thumbs-up, thumbs-down; it's your choice

Aug. 1, 2014 at 11:30 a.m.

THUMBS-UP

Thumbs-up to the Victoria High Little League All-Stars, especially Southwest 11- to 12-year-olds. Winning second place in Texas East Section Tournament was such an accomplishment and a real class act. The coaches, parents, families and friends who traveled to Tyler created a strong bond and represented Victoria well. The kids proved they deserved to be there and played as a team that wouldn't quit. Victoria can be very proud.

Judy, Hallettsville

Thumbs-up to Titan varsity cheerleaders - Anna Ashley Spence, Chelsea Soto, Haley Grosenbacher and Angel Adames and junior varsity cheerleaders Erika Garcia and Tracey Olivarez for making Universal Cheerleaders Association All-American Cheerleaders. Congratulations to coaches and squads for a job well done at cheer camp.

Sandra, Victoria

Thumbs-up and hurray to the Victoria College and University of Houston-Victoria presidents as they foster collaboration between their institutions to provide a strong local nursing program.

James, Victoria

Thumbs-up to Gayle Bludau at the Lavaca County Extension Office for all the hard work she puts in for the county 4-H participants. Bringing home two impressive scholarships from State Roundup was such an accomplishment, and Hallettsville can be so proud of all of you.

Judy, Hallettsville

THUMBS-DOWN

Thumbs-down to the hot playground equipment at the children's playground in Riverside Park. The equipment gets so hot during these summer afternoons that it can actually burn the children's skin. Some sort of covering to shade the equipment is really needed.

Katie, Victoria
