Sixty-one victims of crime received $13,709.68 in restitution during July in Victoria.
The Victoria Unit of the Adult Probation Department administers the Victim Restitution Program and the Community Service Restitution Program.
The victim restitution program is a service provided when the court orders a defendant to pay restitution to the victim for the loss they have suffered. The defendant pays this amount through the adult probation department as a condition of probation.
The community service restitution program is a service in which defendants are ordered by the court to perform work for a nonprofit group, church, school or a part of government. This program provides an actual dollar savings to the community as the work performed is work that is needed. During the month of July, the program provided 2,360.25 hours of volunteer service worth $17,111.81 to the community.
