How is this kind of rhetoric helpful?

Editor, the Advocate:
Regarding the letter about the National Guard that ran Aug. 10, like the writer, I question the purpose served by sending the National Guard to the border - other than creating a talking point possibly useful to a particular 2016 presidential aspirant. However, one hopes that he isn't advocating border control policies like the apocryphal measures described in his letter.
It's hard to see how this kind of rhetoric is helpful. If opposing that sort of solution makes me a "bleeding heart," then so be it.
