Children take one last dip before school begins

Braylin Vasquez looked at his friend and grinned.
"You ready?" the 7-year-old asked, stretching into a running position.
"Oh yeah," Haidyn Fonseca, 8, of Victoria, hollered before he broke out into a run across the inflatable pathway, dropping to his belly to slide into a pool of refreshing water.
With the temperatures Sunday reaching 99 degrees, owners of The Fun Factory pulled out the best of their waterslides and set up shop in Riverside Park.
"It's hot, and we had some of our waterslides available," co-owner Nikki Delgado said. "And since everyone is looking for a water park, and the pool is closed, we came out."
The Fun Factory opened its inflatable and party rental services three years ago in Victoria. This is the first year the company hosted the Aqua-holics Back to School Water Day.
Children of all ages enjoyed racing down the side-by-side slip and slide as well as cooling off in one of seven inflatable water slides.
A live band also kept people rocking through the heat.
Food vendors at the park served up snacks, ice cream and snow cones, giving students one last hurrah before school resumes.
Joseph Deleon, 12, who will enter the seventh grade, spent one of his last free days enjoying the water slides and a cherry snow cone.
Joseph said he's most excited about learning new things when he's back in the classroom.
Six-year-old Adriana Arredondo said she's ready to begin first grade and really wants to go back to school.
Her favorite subject is reading, she said.
As for Braylin and Haidyn, they just don't want to stop playing at the park.
"I love it because it's fun," each explained.
