Disappoint expressed for lack of funds

Editor, the Advocate:
I wish to voice my disappointment in the Victoria City Council denying the promoters of the Victoria's Comic Con funds to offset the expense of putting on the convention in January. It seems that it was fine to throw away nearly $1 million dollars on a failed "Bring your Boots" campaign.
My family has spent the summer attending various comic and anime conventions, and Victoria's convention has always been a positive topic of conversation with its inaugural event. From personal experience, I would never let my children roam free during any Victoria sponsored event with its need to serve alcohol and the less than family-friendly atmosphere. These conventions, however, are geared toward our younger generation and promote a healthy outlet for their creative and imaginative nature.
Not only will Victoria's Comic Con draw in people from our neighboring towns and cities but also the vendors who will be selling their wares. This event will not only provide a welcome boost to our hotels and restaurants; it will showcase Victoria as a place to visit.
