Theatre Victoria will be holding auditions for its Junior Theatre Company on Saturday.

"This is a new company I have created," technical director Michael Teer said. "It is open for junior and high school students in the Crossroads."

The Junior Theatre Company was launched because of its successful summer camp program that draws in thousands of students, Teer said.

In order to participate in the auditions, a one-minute monologue must be memorized along with a separate singing piece. Participants may bring a CD with only a track or a sheet of music to be accompanied by piano.

Applicants who apply by Friday with the box office can pick their audition time Saturday.

An open call will be held at 12:45 p.m. Saturday for those who have not preregistered.

Teer said the new program will not only include acting and singing classes but will also heavily be a performance group.

"This will be its first year," he said. "But that's the beauty of it; it's going to be very open to ideas."

While Teer said there will be performances at Theatre Victoria, he plans for a show that will hit the road. The company will perform a 20-minute cabaret show that will travel around the city in late November.
