City should show more support for events
Editor, the Advocate:
As to the city of Victoria only furnishing barricades for city-sponsored functions: Now, the city is unwilling to encourage or support local groups that not only promote our city but also represent local citizens and often create sizeable sums of revenue. Yet, neither is the city willing to sponsor any of the activities in question. Another no-win situation for everyone.
This is reminiscent of the bureaucracy when the city tried to prohibit roadside food vendors, purportedly because of the lack of running water. However, the same rule didn't appear to apply to city-sponsored activities - for example, none of the vendors at the July 4 fireworks display at the Victoria Community Center appeared to have running water.
It's sad that the city of Victoria wants to urge everyone else to support and take pride in their city, and then it refuses to aid and/or support those same people.
