Victoria Texans claim season-opening win

The Victoria Texans scored on offense, defense and special teams en route to a 35-7 season-opening win over XFL East Division foe Wharton County on Saturday night at Patti Welder Stadium.

The Texans scored on a 40-yard pass from Cordero Williams to Brandon Brinkley and a 9-yard run by Williams. Brinkley returned a punt 45 yards for a touchdown.

Victoria also scored on a 10-yard interception return by Jermany Williams and a 10-yard fumble return by Jaudis Eaton.

Taylor Brown kicked five extra points for the Texans.

The Panthers' lone score came on a 45-yard pass from Willie Ephran to Chris Goddall.

The Texans go on the road Saturday to play the Galveston Monarchs.
