Edwin Kuester, of Cuero, celebrated his 100th birthday Jan. 12 with family and friends at Cuero Nursing and Rehabilitation Center. Sara Meyer, mayor of Cuero, right, presented Kuester with a proclamation commending him for his lifelong achievements. Kuester was born and raised outside of Cuero in Lindenau and remembers wearing out several pairs of shoes walking 7 miles to and from high school every day. His luck eventually changed when he got a horse to ride to school. Kuester and his wife of 58 years, Ipha, spent many of their days dancing to swing and big band music. Kuester has always been active in his church, Grace Presbyterian, and is its eldest member.
