Victoria Police Department officers respond to an armed robbery late Tuesday afternoon in the 3600 block of Houston Highway. A man brandished a handgun and robbed the store for an undisclosed amount of merchandise, officers say.

Sara Hernandez said she remembers cuckoo clocks inside Beau Gold announcing the half hour just before she left Tuesday afternoon.

It was 3:30 p.m.

She talked to the owner for a couple minutes about the clocks and then went home.

Shortly after, a masked man walked into the store showing a handgun and stole an undisclosed amount of merchandise, police said.

"That scares me - I was the last one in there before that happened," Hernandez, 40, of Victoria, said. "I can't believe something like this happened to him (the owner). He is just the nicest guy in the world."

No injuries were reported.

Victoria Police Department investigators are seeking information about the robbery.

The owner and a customer who entered during the robbery were the only people inside the store in the 3600 block of Houston Highway during the robbery, Lt. Eline Moya said.

The suspect was described as a thin man with a muscular build, light in complexion and between 5 feet 10 inches and 6 feet tall.

He left the parking lot in a maroon Jeep Grand Cherokee or a similar model and traveled north on Sam Houston Drive.

Police are asking anyone with information about the robbery to contact the police, Victoria Crimestoppers or submit an anonymous tip through the Tip411 line.
