Free Health Screenings
WHEN: 9 a.m.-2 p.m.
WHERE: H-E-B, 1505 E. Rio Grande St.
• Blood pressure, free
Many people have high blood pressure for years without knowing it. Uncontrolled high blood pressure can lead to stroke or heart attack.
• Blood glucose, free
Blood glucose tests are done to check for diabetes or hypoglycemia.
• Cholesterol, $3.99
A cholesterol test is an important tool because people probably will not have signs or symptoms of high cholesterol levels, which are a significant risk factor for heart disease.
• Quarterly diabetes (A1C), $29.99
This test provides people with the "big picture" view of their average blood sugar control over a period of several months to help them manage their diabetes.
• Cholesterol, $29.99 (fasting required)
A complete cholesterol test measures all the cholesterols and triglycerides in your blood. This includes a breakdown of the "good" HDL cholesterol and "bad" LDL cholesterol.
Crossroads residents can join Jason Brown with the statewide Slim Down Showdown Challenge for free health screenings Saturday at H-E-B Pharmacy on Rio Grande Street.
"I'll be there to share what I've learned about nutrition and exercise," Brown said.
Free blood pressure and glucose testing will be available from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the H-E-B Pharmacy on Rio Grande Street.
A $3.99 test will be available that detects high cholesterol levels. For $29.99, attendees who have fasted can have a complete cholesterol test.
A quarterly diabetes A1C blood test also will be offered for $29.99. The test is used to diagnose Type 1 and Type 2 diabetes as well as gauge how well a person's diabetes is being managed.
An exercise group will perform a Zumba demonstration at 10 a.m., and attendees will be entered in a drawing to win a $30 healthy gift basket.
