Hallettsville chamber names Citizen of the Year

Angela Tullos was named Citizen of the Year at the recent Hallettsville Chamber of Commerce membership banquet.

Henry Jasek received the Hospitality Award.

Tullos is a teacher at Hallettsville Junior High School, where she teaches teen leadership and coordinates the National Junior Honor Society and the school's University Interscholastic League events.

She is also active with the American Cancer Society and works with the Lavaca County Relay for Life. She was the event chairwoman and has served on the committee for the past eight years. In 2006, she was an ambassador for the Celebration on the Hill in Washington, D.C.

She also volunteers with the STARZ organization, serving as the youth dance coordinator and a member of the casino and scholarship committees. While a member of the chamber board, she began working with the Miss Hallettsville pageants and continues to work with them after her term ended.

Jasek, 76, worked at the Hallettsville Tribune-Herald for 58 years and at Hoffer's Drive-in for 41 years. He is a Catholic, an avid polka fan and will speak to anyone in English or Czech.
