A Victoria police officer smashed a window to get to a 1-year-old locked inside a car Monday afternoon.

The child had been in a gold Impala in the Chick-fil-A and H-E-B parking lot for about 10 minutes before Officer Chris Case arrived at about 1 p.m.

The child's mother was on the scene when Case arrived and smashed the Impala's front passenger side window. The child was not injured, but emergency medical services were called as a precaution, Case said.

The child appeared to leave at about 1:30 p.m. with his family in another vehicle.
