Palacios chamber honors man, woman, business of the year

Palacios Chamber of Commerce recently named its man, woman and business of the year. Winners are from left, Dr. Kelly Pfeifer Rynchek, Palacios Dental Center, Business of the Year; JoAnne Estopinal, Woman of the Year; and Barney Gulley, Man of the Year.

The Palacios man, woman and business of the year were recently named at the Palacios Chamber Awards Banquet.

Winners were Barney Gulley, Man of the Year; JoAnne Estopinal, Woman of the Year; and Dr. Kelly Pfeifer Rynchek, Palacios Dental Center, Business of the Year.

Gulley has had 32 years progressive experience in managing sales, transportation and physical distribution functions in the international chemical industry. He is a member of the Palacios Chamber of Commerce, chairman of the Christmas Seaside Holiday, active in the Lions Club and is in charge of the Fourth of July fireworks display. Gulley is active in the Walk to Emmaus - an ecumenical church renewal movement -and is lay leader of the First Methodist Church and serves on the district board as vice chairman of trustees, works with the food pantry making deliveries once a month to homebound people, serves on the Palacios Area Fund Distribution Committee, is a member of the Grants and Fundraiser Committee for Palacios Community Hospital, serves on the Palacios HUB advisory board, serves on the city airport board, serves as adviser on the LaPetite Belle project, was instrumental in getting the Belle project re-energized and completed and is a member of the Palacios Yacht Club.

Estopinal was offered the position of chief financial officer for Tres Palacios Marine in August 2006 and, 11 months later, was offered the position as general manager. In 2008, she was promoted to president, a position she still holds. Estopinal has opened an exercise/fitness room called Biddie Bodies for mature women. She shoots 12-gauge shotguns at sporting clay competitions and helps the Deutschburg Club with its annual seafood dinner. She serves as director and treasurer of Palacios Chamber of Commerce, where she volunteers to help put up Christmas decorations, and works with Pedal Palacios, Poker in Palacios, Christmas in August fundraiser and the annual fishing tournament.

Palacios Dental Clinic, owned by Dr. Kelly Rynchek, is in a new state-of-the-art building and is open and ready to serve the community with comprehensive, up-to-date technology. The business has made many donations to help other entities in the community such as the Palacios Hospital Box Supper, Harmonie Club Valentine Sweetheart Ball, Palacios Chamber of Commerce annual banquet and Palacios Library Harvest Moon.
