I'm writing to express my frustration in the overall patrolling of North Farm-to-Market Road 444 in Inez. This area has been an eyesore when it comes to speeders. Drivers totally ignore the posted speed limit of 60 mph. We definitely have NASCAR during the peak hours in the morning and after work. I have witnessed oversized loads coming through this area as well.
Our past constable, who served two terms, was known as "Car 54, where are you?" In the total of eight years, I could count the number of times I saw him in our area working on one hand. I have yet to see our new constable working in our area. I truly believe that visibility is the key to anything you do.
This area has had fatalities and will continue to do so unless someone works this area consistently. I have seen the Department of Public Safety and the sheriff's department working the area, but they have a great deal of area to cover. But if you have a constable who lives in the area, that problem could be corrected if he consistently worked. Hopefully, something will be done to curtail the problem.
