As we move into 2014, all of us at the Victoria Art League wish you all the best in the new year.

The year will start with a bang for us as Wendt Electric will install new lighting in our gallery, which will be a much appreciated improvement for our rentals and spotlight our artists throughout the gallery.

We will also have Miori Plumbing install new sinks, cabinets and fixtures in our bathrooms, and we will install new flooring and paint them as well.

The ceilings will also be repainted in the gallery. It looks like we will be closing the gallery probably the last week in January or the first week in February while the work is being done.

Everything will be open until then, and the classes in the classroom and pottery room will not be affected.

Our Christmas Bazaar was very successful, and we were happy to see so many people come see and buy our wide variety of creative art. We highlight so many artists and craftsmen from our area at very reasonable prices, and I hope everyone who reads this will come visit our gallery and see what you think.

We are out of the way, so you will have to put it on your agenda for the day to come for a visit between 1-5 p.m. Tuesday through Saturday at 905 S. Bridge St. Go south on Main Street to downtown Victoria to Water Street, take a right, go one block to Bridge Street, take a left onto Bridge, go one block, and you are there. It couldn't be easier to find us; we are just off the beaten path. Come on down.

We will hold classes in our classroom, studio and pottery room during renovations as Jim Feig teaches a beginning digital photography class from 6:30-8:30 p.m. Tuesdays starting Jan. 14. He also will start another class, Photoshop Elements, from 6:30-8:30 p.m. Thursdays starting Jan. 23. For information on these classes, call Feig at 361-576-0578.

I will teach classes in pottery, with two beginners' classes starting Feb. 10 and continuing for six Mondays. Class will be 1-4 p.m. or 6-9 p.m. I will also teach classes for those with pottery experience from 1-4 p.m. or 6-9 p.m. Thursdays starting Feb. 13 for six weeks. If interested or for information, call me at 361-575-3216.

Paint the Town, which has been successful and fun for more than a year, will continue with sessions Mondays and Wednesdays along with special parties and events. Contact Eunice Collins for more information at 361-576-4043.

Rita Kirkman, an accomplished artist from New Braunfels, will be our featured artist and demonstrator of pastels at our monthly meeting at 2 p.m. Jan. 12. This will be another opportunity for you to come as our guest and see an artist at work in a different medium.

We do try to have a variety of demonstrations in different mediums for the public to come see and experience. Kirkman will also come back to teach a two-day workshop in pastels Jan. 18 and 19. We are very fortunate to have her, and you can check out her artwork on ritakirkman.com. You can see for yourself why she is a member of the Pastel Society of America and well qualified to teach this workshop.

I believe there are still openings for the class, so if you want more information, contact Peggy Yandell at 361-935-5549.

We will continue to offer various classes and workshops throughout the year in watercolor, oil painting, mosaics, stained glass and wood carving. We also have plans to try some new classes in pastels, clay animal sculpture, scratch board, drawing and other interests you may suggest.

We do hope to see you at our meetings, a workshop or class or just drop in anytime for a visit and look around. Someone is always glad to show you around, answer questions or give some information on the member artists that you would see in our gallery. Come see us, ya hear?
