More than 24,000 children in the Texas foster care system need caring adults to look out for them, according to a news release from Golden Crescent Court Appointed Special Advocates.

These children need a CASA volunteer to help get through the foster care system as quickly as possible.

Golden Crescent CASA served 385 children in 2013. More than 101 CASA volunteers spoke up for abused and neglected children who, through no fault of their own, ended up in foster care, according to the news release.

Still, more than half of the children in foster care do not have volunteers.

By becoming a volunteer, you can make a difference in a child's life and in your own, according to the release.

Volunteer orientation will be from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. Thursday at the Victoria College Continuing Education Building, 2200 E. Red River St.

To register, visit the CASA website or call 361-573-3734 for more information.
